Cinema First Debut Was A Great Success!

Intolerable Cruelty

Fifty-eight wonderful people showed up to see the show tonight.

Lots of laughter, much popcorn munching, and no one spilled any red wine on the carpet!

Range of Ratings - 3 to 10

Average Rating: 7.6

Comments:
1. The Coen Brothers can do Hollywood.
2. The Coen Brothers do a great job of juxtaposing comedy and seriousness - cynical view of humanity with a real affection for humanity.
3. That you will never be truly happy or have what you want without being honesty with yourself & others.
4. The Coen Brothers love to play with us. Do they really believe in love.
5. I love dark humor because the dark reflects my cynicism & the humor reflects my zest & joy.
6. Who knew the Coens did comedy...
7. I do like this movie - love the energy, the characters, the writing - I don't really buy that Marilyn & Miles are changed - would like to see the sequel with the "little lawyer feet" :)
8. The death of the hired killer was contrived and I didn't like Miles once he hired someone to kill his wife.
9. To be human is to be vulnerable.
10. Different perspectives from the audience. The power of gaming others for satisfaction.
11. Redemption can be found through the power of love.
12. Comedy!!! Really laughed!! (I didn't know the Coens did that.)
13. Always get a pre-nup and never trust the pool boy.
14. I process & form opinions more slowly than most, it seems. HOPE as a theme redeems a film that is otherwise too dark to enjoy (e.g. Schindler's List).
15. I will revisit how I feel about George Clooney as an actor and as a person.
16. Great movie! Great choice for the opener!
17. Young folks really understand the Coen Brothers!
18. I love watching movies with people who are friends.
19. Love always wins.

Welcome to Cinema First

Narcissist cinephile that I am, I was moved to donate a very large screen, projector, and Blu-Ray player to the church, so that I could host movie nights for the smart, funny, thoughtful, and entertaining people I've come to know and love at FUSD. I love film, and I love learning, teaching, and growing. I like it when people listen to me, argue with me, and share their thoughts about interesting movies. So, now that the equipment has arrived, it's time to party! The first series is called "The Spiritual Lessons of the Coen Brothers". We'll watch a Coen Brothers film in the Sanctuary, then retreat to the Common Area for potluck munchies, beer, wine, and discussion. As these are adult-themed movies, no one under 17 will be permitted without a parent or guardian. All films start at 7:00 p.m. Please bring munchies &/or beer or wine to share.
